This post is an update for FVE documenting improved runway conditions as compared to Friday, March 1. Temperatures in the mid to upper 20* F along with full sun on Friday permitted us to mechanically scrape and sweep from 1300 to 1530 EST. The picture below was documented at 1219 Z Saturday, March 2, 2019. The center 25′ of runway is more than 90% bare pavement. The remaining runway is 100% ice.
First post of March for FVE. The icy runway conditions persist but we are seeing a bit more pavement each week. The series of photos were recorded 1230 Z March 1, 2019. They are as follows. #1 Taken from the 32 safety area down RWY32. #2 at the 1,000′ point of RWY 32. #3 at the entrance of taxiway A mid field (2,300′)
FVE runway 14/32 conditions at present continue to be challenging with 90% ice coverage. Use caution during arrival and departure. Crosswinds of greater than 10 knots pose significant ground control issues with the prevailing conditions.
FVE is ice from end to end. Breezy conditions over the past 48 hours along with blowing snow have polished the ice making it treacherous to land or take off. We recommend that arriving aircraft choose an alternate airport until conditions improve.
