This post is an update for FVE documenting improved runway conditions as compared to Friday, March 1. Temperatures in the mid to upper 20* F along with full sun on Friday permitted us to mechanically scrape and sweep from 1300 to 1530 EST. The picture below was documented at 1219 Z Saturday, March 2, 2019. The center 25′ of runway is more than 90% bare pavement. The remaining runway is 100% ice.

FVE is ice from end to end. Breezy conditions over the past 48 hours along with blowing snow have polished the ice making it treacherous to land or take off. We recommend that arriving aircraft choose an alternate airport until conditions improve.

FVE 14 and 32 conditions narrative and photo posting follows. The effects of the snow and rain event of Wednesday, January 23 continues to dominate the narrative at FVE. Although we are open today and two of our based aircraft were active today the the runway surface remains bumpy as a result of irregular adhesion of ice after mechanical scraping. It is significantly improved compared to Thursday, January 24 but it far below my standards. Expect another temporary closure Wednesday, January 30. The forecast is calling for 8″ of snow hopefully all snow for this event. At 1910Z FVE wind was 160@06 with an OAT of 3 deg F.

FVE is closed due to ice and a wash board surface after ice removal operations proved unsuccessful Friday. The picture posted here was captured at 1253 Z Saturday. The airport may remained closed if conditions cannot be remedied.
