Spring is slowly arriving at FVE

FVE post for Sunday, March 17. FVE had less than inch of snow overnight. An arctic blast of air moved in late Saturday evening. We woke up this morning with increasing winds. At 1428Z winds were 310@19G31. OAT was -09C (16*F).

FVE posting for Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 1113 Z (0713 EDT). Runway pavement is bare and wet with an OAT of 39*F. Wind was 260@10. Sky more clouds than sun.

Friday’s FVE update. The ice finally be gone. At 1800Z there was light rain falling and the OAT was 40*F. The following pictures taken starting at 1338Z through 1458Z show bare wet pavement.

FVE has a full 70′ of bare RWY pavement. There are some patchy spots of ice on the last 10′ of both thresholds extending from the sides about 10′. Taxiway A at mid field is mostly bare pavement. The midfield apron was about 75% ice free at 1400Z (0800EDT) today March 14. Today’s picture was taken at 0800 from the RWY32 safety area looking down the runway toward the northwest.

FVE documentation of improvement since the last update March 10. Photo recorded 1403 Z (0903EDT). Monday’s high temperature of 37 deg F combined with the March sun resulted in efficient removal of 4″ of snow which fell late Sunday afternoon continuing until early Monday morning.

FVE runway documentation for Saturday, March 9. The photo that follows was captured at 1206Z (0706 EST). FVE received a dusting of snow. around daybreak and is experiencing intermittent light snow. At times short periods of snow squalls are decreasing visibility. At 1344Z the wind had intensified with wind 360@23G29. Visibility was 3 with LS.
Note that the center 40′ of the runway at 1206Z was bare with the exception of 400′ commencing at 1,000′ from the RWY 32 Threshold. Warm pavement with blowing snow across the runway from the pilots side on Friday afternoon March 8 melted and refroze.

FVE documentation as of 1459Z (0959EST) Conditions continue to improve in spite of prevailing bitter cold OAT.

FVE post of airfield conditions recorded 1217 Z. Runway is bare pavement with a thin layer of plowed snow for the center 40′ and ice covered with plowed snow on the margins. There are no plowed windrows but, expect snow with depths of 24″ to 36″ on either side of the runway and taxiway.
